确实断裂了。当时是船头右侧撞到了冰山，船头受损导致海水不断涌入，造成船体头重脚轻，船头不断下降，船尾不断上翘，终于船身受不了巨大的张力，船体从中间断裂（并未完全断裂），船尾砸入海水中，此时船头开始垂直下沉，牵引着船尾，导致船尾再次上翘并最终垂直地被拖入了海底，抵达海底时由于与海底的剧烈撞击，船体彻底断成了两段。不过在电影拍摄过程中，泰坦了尼克号只造了一半，所以电影中有一些穿帮镜头，比如说里面有些人是镜像对称的。
